Simon Cook, Re-Set Scenery

I have been involved in the creative arts for over 28 years in both full time and freelance roles, as a Stage Technician, Flyman, Carpenter, Master Carpenter and most recently in a full-time capacity as Workshop Manager for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS). In addition to My duties at RCS, I also work as a freelance Master Carpenter for Gilded Balloon Festivals ltd. (overseeing the annual installation of their Edinburgh Fringe festival venues), as a Carpenter for QDOS Entertainment’s annual Christmas shows (in charge of installation & de-rig of the scenery at the Scottish Exhibition Centre & theatres around the UK) and as a draftsman producing technical drawings for a number of clients in the Scottish theatre sector.

My experiences in the theatre industry and passion for the environment led me in 2017 to co-found and become a director of Re-Set Scenery, a not for profit organisation dedicated to providing the Scottish Entertainment Industry with an environmentally responsible alternative to landfill for its unwanted scenery, props & furniture, as well as promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable construction practice within the Scottish creative arts.
